"Mercy is a charming and sentimental release, with moments of humble luminosity and genuine brilliance."
I recently finished work on a new CD. It's called 'Mercy'. It is my third release and the first full length record I've made since the 2006 2-disc release,'Livengood'.
I was in the middle of recording a completely different record than 'Mercy' when I wrote a handful of songs that sounded better together than with the current project at the time. I strayed. And what started as a few songs became an entirely different record with more than a dozen songs. The subject matter of the album spans many things but all the songs are related with either the presence or absence of mercy - mercy towards others or mercy towards oneself.
'Mercy' was recorded in the back room of my cabin in Fairbanks, Alaska among miscellaneous tools - saws, sanders, drills , hammers, etc... and canned pickles made with my grandfather's handed down pickling recipe. It was cramped quarters for recording, but I had enough room to play all the instruments myself - electric guitar, ukulele, mandolin, recorder, keyboard...etc. I even used the pickling supplies by beating a 3 gallon canning pot filled with glass jars on songs, "I Might Kill A Man" and "Scattered (reprise)".
You can listen and download select tracks for free from 'Mercy' - and other albums - on the Music page. The best way to purchase CDs (as always) is to buy directly from the artist. So, just follow the PayPal links on the Music page, or send me an email.
